Resting

The Supreme Master Ching Hai explained that it is not the things in the picture that are resting, but it is their Master who is resting; and that it is not what you can see that is important, but that the invisible things are the important ones. This picture does not convey an impression of idleness, loneliness or escapism, because the colors are very bright, depicting a heart filled with bliss.

We usually think of a resting place as being very comfortable, soft and peaceful. However, as the Supreme Master Ching Hai's working conditions are rather special, She has to rest even on rock when there is time. Furthermore, the rocks are symbolic of hardness, while the water represents flexibility, so both the Yin (negative) and Yang (positive) aspects are present. Nonetheless, all of these visible things are only symbols. It is the unseen Master who is most important.
