Report from Cambodia

Three Thousand Tons Of Rice Have Arrived

Last year Cambodia was the victim of a major flood due to the overflowing of the Mekong River. Master was very concerned about the suffering of those people as if She was one of them. She immediately sent an emergency relief team - mainly of fellow initiates from Formosa and some initiates from various parts of Asia - to help the victims. As of now, the first stage of the relief work has been completed. During this period, the relief team, under the total support of Premiere and Mrs. Ranariddh and the government, distributed material necessities such as rice, sugar, scarf, clothing and Master's sample booklets as spiritual food. Their efforts reached the following provinces in Cambodia: Bangtong, Shiji, Bangfayang, Madewang, Bolomain, Canla, Luoli, Chazhen, Tujiao, Bangzhen...

The second stage of the relief work is about to start. The main effort at this time is to distribute rice to relieve the starvation of large numbers of people in Cambodia. A severe drought in their country has caused large crop failures.

Ever since the Supreme Master Ching Hai launched the activity entitled "One Kilogram of Rice Can Save An Entire Country," initiates and compassionate people from all over the world have been responding with strong support. Aided lovingly by the government and the people of Formosa, the first three thousand tons of rice have already been collected and shipped to Cambodia. Each grain of rice contains Master's love and blessings. The cargo expected by the Cambodian people arrived smoothly at the destination a few days ago. The relief workers will quickly distribute the rice - a symbol of friendship in adversity among nations and loving fellowship on Earth - to the victims to relief them of their present predicament and to wish them speed in overcoming this difficult time safely, so as to enjoy good health and prosperity in the near future. (*Another three thousands tons are to be on their way to Cambodia.)

Express News From Cambodia

The Rice Shipment To Aid Cambodia Has Arrived

"Most grateful to the Supreme Master Ching Hai for sending three thousand and two tons of rice all the way from Formosa." At the rice receiving ceremony and press conference held on January 14 by the Cambodian Municipal Government, the delegate representing the first and second Prime Minister expressed, "The reputation of the Supreme Master Ching Hai is well known throughout the world. Besides aiding the Cambodian people, She also helps any nation or people in need. She is the most perfect model for the people of the world. Here I would like to wish the Supreme Master Ching Hai and all Her disciples be blessed with fortune!"

According to international law, a commercial freighter waiting for inspection takes about two days before it can drop anchor. However, under the instructions of the Prime Ministers, the ship moored immediately. The delegate also related the regards of the Prime Ministers to the hard work-ing staff on the ship that carried the rice. Extra workers had been used day and night to help with the unloading to shorten the working days, so that the freighter would be able to return as soon as possible.

Continued Report On Aiding Cambodia With Rice

Love Conveyed In Every Grain Sent From Afar

The three thousand tons of rice that arrived in Cambodia have been handed over to the government by the rescue team there representing Master. At the press conference, special representative to the Prime Ministers, Mr. Nhim Vanda, accepted the rice donation on behalf of the Cambodian Government.

Later, Minister Nhim Vanda visited our branch Center in Cambodia. He presented a gift - a four faced wooden Buddha statue, in gratitude, for Master's righteous and charitable action in helping the Cambodian people. In return for his courtesy, the rescue team gave him Master's lectures books, video and cassette tapes - these holy teachings of wisdom symbolize the key that opens up everything.

In Formosa, utilizing the remainder of the donations, another three thousand tons of rice will soon be shipped, providing further relief to the drought crisis in Cambodia.

King Sihanouk goes to Battambang Province to distribute rice to the victims

His Majesty, King Sihanouk, personally launched the distribution of the first batch of three thousand tons of rice. The first destination was Battambang Province. Because of the King's visit, the people there set aside the tense and threatening atmosphere of these days. Consequently, everywhere an atmosphere of cheer and joyfulness prevailed, as if it was the New Year Festival. The people truly believe that all their problems would readily be resolved by the presence of the King.

Led by the King, the relief operation proceeded to Svay Dounkeo and Phnom Sam Pao. Due to the persistent drought, all one could see on both sides of the road were fields of dried rice paddies. One could imagine the great shortage of food. The King cordially and kindly greeted and shook hands with the people. When it was announced that each family would be issued several dozen kilo bags of rice, everyone applauded happily. As each household received the rice with Master's name printed on the packaging, invisibly an everlasting affinity was established with Master. The King also introduced who Master is, and our group to the people. Their applause demonstrated their gratitude and respect to Master.

It was the earnest hope of the rescue team that each victim would receive the loving relief rice. They also hoped that, after this operation led by King Sihanouk, the government would continue to expedite the distribution of the rice to the victims, helping more people in need.
